The Virtual Cemetery contains 30 real veterans from 5 allied nations. It is designed to work from the comfort of home.
Because the system thinks it's a real cemetery all of the features you will find in a real cemetery appear. The only difference is there are no real graves to go to.
Instead, the same selectable flags that will sit over real graves in real cemeteries also appear in the
Virtual Cemetery. They represent the veteran graves.
So wherever you are in the world and whenever you create a Virtual Cemetery it will be created around your position. If you’re at home you will find the Virtual Cemetery dropped around or close to your house, with your compass arrow indicating your position.
The compass arrow and range counters will indicate your position and distance to those virtual veteran graves.
You will also find a photo gallery of veterans geolocated nearby. You can tap the photos and flags to access
their histories.
Just like in a real cemetery, real families have honored their loved ones.
People like Theodore Roosevelt IV speaks for his grandfather. Shannon Shepley speaks for her lost sister and ten year old Jaden Grant speaks for his fallen Dad - to name just a few.
So please, create a Virtual Cemetery, play the videos, read the histories and see how the system will work in a real cemetery.

To prove the system can cover thousands of graves, every one of Normandy Cemetery's 9387 graves is marked with a geolocated flag. Each flag can be tapped to access a basic profile about the veteran lying there.

Result: A satellite image of Normandy Cemetery will open with TR Jr's grave flag highlighted in red,
surrounded by the flags of his comrades.
Gently swipe your way around Normandy Cemetery, tapping any flag to open a profile snippet about any veteran and access their basic profile.

Our database contains nearly 2 million veterans, with the ability to add millions more - regardless of when they died or served.
Every veteran has a basic profile, waiting for someone like you to upload a history about them.
Almost every cemetery or memorial where those millions are buried or commemorated is geolocated, enabling you to view over 24,000 sacred sites from home.

Hallowed History is backed by many renown veterans and Gold Star family supporters.
Tap the Supporter and Education icon on the top toolbar to see their messages and videos.

Hallowed History is designed to educate our kids about service, sacrifice and modern technology. It will also help to fund raise for our schools.
To see how, tap the Supporter and Education icon, tap the Education Program link and play the video.

Open and review a typical 'Your Veteran' history in the Featured Profiles screen.

GPS doesn't work inside, but our Virtual Cemetery will. Sometimes though your compass arrow might drop nearby
instead of on your location. It might also jump a little.

This happens in all mapping apps when users are inside and the map is zoomed right in.
But no problem. If the compass arrow jumps too much or your location isn't close enough, just return to the Home
screen and create another Virtual Cemetery.
Once you tap the 'Create' button it may take a little while for the cell towers and satellites to gain the most accurate fix. This is typical behaviour in GPS.
If your compass arrow doesn't appear in the right place, give it a moment then - if needed - recreate the Virtual Cemetery until you're happy with where you are at.
The real gravesites, memorials and cemeteries of every veteran in the Virtual Cemetery can be viewed under the
Select a Location button in their Veteran Profiles. There, you will also see many Virtual Gravesite buttons.

Because the system thinks the Virtual Cemetery is a real cemetery, every time one is created a Virtual Gravesite
for the veteran is also created. The real Gravesite, Memorial and Cemetery buttons will always be at the top
and will take you to a real site, but please ignore the Virtual Gravesite buttons.
When you are looking at the photos under the photos tab of a Veteran’s Profile, tap any photo to open it in a
separate window. Tap the photo again to close it.

With almost 2 million veterans in the system already, it's a good idea to narrow your search by using the
filter options in the Search screen.

For example, if you only want to search for U.S. veterans, select 'United States' from the Select nationality menu in the Search Screen.
If you were visiting a memorial or cemetery, the search results will return the veterans who are buried or commemorated at that location first.

The Nearby Veterans Gallery is designed to appear when users pass any registered veteran's grave.
Tapping any photo in the Gallery will highlight that veteran's grave, enabling people to go to it or to view the veteran's history wherever they are located.

Range counters in the veteran photos will count down as a user approaches any selected grave.
When the user is approximately ten feet or three meters from the grave the range counter will turn red. You can set the range to appear in either feet or meters in the Settings Screen.

The Map Screen is launched by clicking on the arrow icon on the top toolbar. It will open a map at your location.
When the map opens we recommend that you tap the Find Me button to centre the map on your position. (See the 'Find Me' button section below).
Typically, the map would be used in the full system if you were visiting a real cemetery or memorial, where it would reveal any registered veterans buried or commemorated there.

This will centre the map on your location when you have swiped away to another place on the map.
The first time you open a map (other than a Virtual Cemetery) you should tap the Find Me button to ensure your location appears.

The Go button creates a track from the user's position to a selected grave.
Along with the range counters, it will help users to reach a grave when the full system is released.

Veteran award acronyms are listed in a banner at the top of each veteran's Profile Screen. Tapping this banner opens a pop up with a list of the award names in full.

For the prototype, this button enables our family supporters to mark the location of their loved one's grave or memorial in the system.
When the full system is released millions of people around the world will be able to do the same.
Please remember this is a prototype. Numerous enhancements are still to come, like greater accuracy and smoother navigation.
New features like augmented reality and full write capability will also be delivered. So please keep backing us and watch this space.
